Marilyn J. Elswick          Send Condolences

Marilyn Jean Elswick, 75, of East Bank passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2012, after a long illness. After years of suffering, she peacefully went to be with the Lord while surrounded by friends and family.

Marilyn was born on October 26, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of West Virginia. She was a talented pianist and loved southern gospel music. Marilyn attended Church of God of Prophecy in Giles and devoted her time and energy to raising her children and grandchildren and will forever be remembered as the bond that held the Elswick family together.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, the Rev. Harry and Goldie Lewis of Kimberly; brother, Stanley Lewis of Powellton; sister, Juanita Stringer of St. Albans; sister, Freda Atha of Powellton; and daughter, Denise Young of Shrewsbury.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, James Elswick of East Bank; daughter, Debra Hamlin of East Bank, who served as Marilyn's caretaker for over five years, and her husband, Larry, of Oak Hill; daughter, Donna Ford of Belle; son, James "Eddie" Elswick and his wife, Tammy, of Chelyan; son, Tim Elswick and his wife, Kathy, of Chelyan; son, Tony Elswick and wife, Jennifer, of Marmet; and her pride and joy, granddaughters, Anna Milam of South Charleston, Amy Crowder of Belle, and Kayla Elswick of Dry Branch. Marilyn's final granddaughter, Abigail Elswick, is due in November.

Service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, with Pastor Bonita Jedlicka officiating. Burial will follow the service in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2012, at Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove.
