Rodney A. Buckley Send Condolences

Rodney Allen Buckley, 75, of Glasgow died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Marmet Genesis Health Center, where he had lived for the last two years.
He was born December 6, 1936, in Ward, a son of the late James Harrison and Elda Gladys Hicks Buckley. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Wesley, Johnny and Robert; and sisters, Norma (known as Jimmy) and Mary Lou.
Rodney was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Order of the Arrow and a Scout Master. He was a 1955 graduate of East Bank High School, where he played football and basketball. He attended West Virginia Tech. He was a member of Glasgow Methodist Church as a young adult.
He was an employee of the DuPont Plant in Belle when he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army, where he was a medic/ambulance driver. He received his training at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas. He received the Sharp Shooter and Good Conduct Medals, and was promoted to E6. His deployment was extended due to the Berlin Crisis. He retired after 25 years of service with FMC in South Charleston when it closed. He then worked for Carbide until he retired on April 30, 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Sue Russell Buckley; his two sons, Nathan Scott and wife, Donna Castle Buckley, of Chelyan and David Allen and wife, Suzanne Reiter Buckley, of Leander, Texas; two grandchildren, Cheyenne Madison and Daniel David of Texas, and step-granddaughter, Leigh Ann Griffith and husband, Jason, of Charleston; two-step-great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jackson Griffith of Charleston; sister, Helen and husband, Fred "Hunter" Brown, of Yorktown, Va.; sisters-in-law, Jane Ann Russell Haddad and husband, William, of Roanoke, Va., and Sarah Buckley of Vienna; special nephew, who lived with him, Richard Kennedy; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Cooke Funeral Home Chapel, 600 Old Fort St., Cedar Grove, with the Rev. John Massey officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.
Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove is assisting the Buckley family.
