Joseph F. Mattox          Send Condolences

Joseph F. Mattox, 83, of Teays Valley, formerly of Nitro and Eleanor, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Angel Avenue Assisted Living Home after a long illness.

Joe was retired from Monsanto Chemical Company with over 43 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and an active member of the Nitro Church of God. Joe was a graduate of Nitro High School with the class of 1945.

His wife, Pauline A. Hudson Mattox, preceded him in death.

Surviving: son, Dr. Joseph E. Mattox and his wife, Elva, of Frostproof, Fla.; daughters, Maxine Igarta and her husband, the Rev. Steve Igarta, of Red Bluff, Calif., Doloris Erlewine and her husband, Clint, of Nitro and Joyce Hall and her husband, David, of Point Pleasant; brothers Paul and Robert Mattox, both of Nitro; sisters, Mildred Sayre of Nitro, Christine Williams of Texas, Betty Sleight of California, Rosalee Adams of North Carolina, and Opal Shelton of Florida; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the HEART Missionary Training Institute, 13895 Highway 27, Lake Wales, FL 33859, or Nitro Church of God, 15th Street and 2nd Avenue, Nitro, WV 25143.
