Frances D. Knuckles          Send Condolences

Frances Delphine “Peggy” Ballard Knuckles, 81, of South Charleston, formerly of Powells Point, N.C., Melbourne, Fla., Williamson and Logan, passed over into spirit at her daughter's home Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009.

She was born in Wyoming County on Feb. 7, 1928, and was a daughter of the late Aubrey O. and Lillian Ballard. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Denny O. Knuckles; and beloved children, Martha Rose Varney and John Aubrey Knuckles.

She was a graduate of Mullens High School, Mullens.

She is survived by daughter, Sally Ann Knuckles of Dunbar; grandchildren, Brent Varney and Shannon Varney and her partner, Larry Ray Collins; and great-grandchildren, Wesley and Sidney Varney, all of Logan; sister, Louise Daubenspeck of South Charleston; nieces, Debbie and her husband, Melvin Pauley of Teays Valley and Dawn and her husband, Paul Bilanta of South Charleston; and nephew, Eddie Ballard of Beckley.

She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother who spent her life in a faith and knowing that love and forgiveness are the paths to the greatest peace.

She most recently worked at and was the inspiration for “Mountain Mama's” in South Charleston.

A celebration of Delphine's life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at First Presbyterian Church, 1414 Myers Ave., Dunbar, officiated by the Rev. John P. Hunter. A reception will follow at the church.
