George L. Crum Send Condolences

George L. Crum, 78, of Charleston, passed peacefully from this world on August 3, 2009 at his home.
Born in Sharples, WV, George was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Stella (Burgess) Crum. He was raised in Ward, WV and lived in Charleston for the past 40 years. A graduate of East Bank High School, class of ’48, George played semi-professional baseball for Ward in the Mountain State League. He was also an avid league and tournament bowler in Smithers and Charleston for many years. He retired from Valley Camp Coal Company in 1988 after a 35 year career, and was a life member of Charleston Elks Lodge 202, Charleston Moose Lodge 1444, and an active member of the Charleston YMCA.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte (Elswick) Crum; daughter Deborah (Crum) Phelps and her husband Michael Phelps of Thailand; daughter Georgeann (Crum) Lilly-Barker and her husband Jimmie Barker of Charleston; granddaughter Alexis Lilly of Charleston; grandson Ian Barker of Charleston; sister Betty (Crum) Prario and family of Kenova; sister Nancy (Crum) Brown and family of Belle; sister Kay Crum of Belle; brother-in-law Ernest Elswick Jr. of Dallas, NC, sister-in-law Barbara (Elswick) Horner and family, and many close relatives and cherished friends.
George will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his dedication to his family, his honor and integrity, his sense of humor and his zest for life.
A celebration of George’s life and memorial will be held on Thursday August 6, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cooke Funeral Home, Cedar Grove, WV. At 7:00 p.m. Elks Lodge # 202 in Charleston will have a Honor Service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of George to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. West, Charleston, WV 25312.
The family sends a Special Thanks to HospiceCare and CAMC Medical Rehab for their loving care and compassion, and to the many friends and loved ones for their prayers, gifts and support.
